HazMat Incident in Atglen

Just before 9pm on Thursday evening, a liquid nitrogen truck and two vehicles collided at the intersection of Gap Newport Pike & Lower Valley Rd causing the liquid nitrogen truck to flip on it's side and rupturing the tank allowing the liquid nitrogen to flow out onto the ground and into the air.

Fire Departments from Chester County and Lancaster County responded and immediately began to close the area directly around the incident and checked on any injured subjects from the accident. Thankfully there were no serious injuries and all occupants were able to get out of their vehicles.

The Chester County HazMat team was on the scene as well and began to mitigate the situation the best they could. The company that owned the truck was able to get another one on scene to pump out the remaining liquid nitrogen but it was found that the truck was now already empty.

At that point Null's Towing utilized two heavy duty wreckers and their extensive knowledge to get the vehicle flipped back onto it's wheels and removed from the scene.

Crews were on scene for several hours and the roadway was re-opened in the early morning hours.
